When toxins or cell waste stagnate in the muscles and connective tissues, the body has a difficult time disposing the waste causing the body to experience discomfort and pain. The stagnation can be caused by a number of different reasons, such as poor circulation in a localized area, Qi (energy) blockage, or an injury that never fully healed.
When the liver and kidneys are not able to process these insults to the system and excrete them correctly, the toxins are put in storage to be handled at a later time -- usually stored in the muscles.
The negative pressure or vacuum action of cupping quickly facilitates the release of rigid soft tissues, stimulates the peripheral nervous system, loosens and lifts connective tissue, breaks up and drains stagnation. It also has the ability to increase blood and lymph flow to the skin, muscle and connective tissue.
Cupping draws stagnant blood and other fluids that have fallen out of healthy circulation up to the skin and away from the injury to restore circulation to the affected area. It creates space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients needed for the healing process. The capillary system of the skin carries the toxins to the liver and kidneys where they are then metabolized and excreted.
Bradley Therapeutic Massage uses the "dry" method for all cupping therapy treatments
CUPPING METHODS
Cupping therapy involves the placement of cups on the skin and creating suction within these cups. This ancient practice has utilized cups of various materials such as glass, plastic, bamboo, silicone, animal horns and ceramic. Suction is achieved in different ways such as hand-held air pumps, machines, and fire.

There are two forms of cupping therapy which includes, Dry Cupping and Wet Cupping

-
dry cupping, which is a suction-only method
-
wet cupping, which may involve both suction and controlled medicinal bleeding

Bradley Therapeutic Massage only uses the "dry" method with air pump and machine applications.

DRY CUPPING
Dry cupping is a method by which suction is created on particular points on the patient’s body. Suction could be created by using heat to warm the cups so that the cooling air inside the cup creates a vacuum that tugs the skin upwards.
Other methods of creating suction include using an air pump to siphon air out of the cup.

FIRE CUPPING
Fire cupping is an application method of dry cupping that utilizes fire and heat to create suction.  The cup is often heated with fire using alcohol, herbs, or paper. The fire source is removed and the heated cup is placed with the open side directly on your skin.
As the air inside the cup cools it creates a vacuum that draws the skin and tissues upward into the cup.

WET CUPPING
Wet cupping takes the technique of dry cupping a step further. After applying dry cupping for about 3 to 5 minutes, the a lancet is used to make tiny cuts on the raised area to allow for the elimination of toxic blood and fluids.Â
Another cup is then placed on the same area and the suction draws the blood out of the body.
